AGM and Trophy Evening
Rossendale Road Club held their AGM and annual trophy presentation for the 2021 cycling season at Marl Pits Sports Club last Friday evening, and there was plenty to celebrate.
Presenting the trophies was local cycling legend John Leach, still active with coaching at the Manchester Velodrome and who can now proudly recall coaching the current Olympic and World champion Tom Pidcock as a junior.
Top rider of the year was Patrick Hickey, who has become one the of top cycling time triallists throughout the North West, and may next have the National championships as a target. Hickey took the club’s Best All Rounder Trophy in 10, 25 and 50 mile distances, breaking several course records along the way.
Mark Berry took the Bolton by Bowland Festival of Britain Trophy and Roadman’s Hill Climb Shield, with Luke Dabbs being best valley rider on the Crown Point hill climb. Paul Warrener came out tops in the Harry Law series of the club’s evening 10 mile events and Derek Schofield was voted as Clubman of the Year for his work behind the scenes.
With the hopeful reduction in Covid restrictions, the club is now looking forward to an improved 2022 starting with the opening Spoco time trial of the season at Bolton by Bowland this coming Saturday. Start time is 2pm and spectators are welcome, with tea and refreshments available in the village hall.
