Latest Club News
Last week, Rossendale Road Club took part in the annual inter-club challenge for the Malcolm Eccles Trophy, held over 2 legs of 10 mile cycling time trials. The valley club were lying in a good spot after the first leg on their ‘home’ circuit in overall second place, the 3 best placed riders being James Eastwood, Craig Venske and Paul Warrener supported by Derek Schofield and Mick Taylor, just 5 points behind the leading 360 Cycling from Bury.
On the second leg of the following night, held at Bashall Eaves, Green Jersey from Clitheroe benefited from their local knowledge to push Rossendale down into 3rd, with 360 holding onto their lead. Bury Clarion took the Womens competition, with a strong showing across the two nights.
Paul Warrener joined with Derek Schofield to ride in Warrington Road Club’s 25 mile event in the Manchester District’s series at Cranage on Saturday. Conditions were not perfect, with blustery winds blowing across the course, and the overall winner, Stephen Dooley of Seamons CC, did well to post a time of 55.53 min to take the win. Schofield posted his best 25 mile time of the year, finishing in 19th in 1.04.42, with Warrener 2 minutes further back in 24th.
Competitive action returned for the club race at Hapton on Tuesday. And it was newcomer to time trialling, Craig Venske, who took the win in an Impressive time of 24.49 min for the 10 mile circuit. Paul Warrener took 3rd in 26.51, passing his minute man Derek Schofield just over the line, with James Eastwood taking a disappointing 5th place after suffering gear change failure. The series comes to a conclusion next Tuesday with the final event at Hapton, followed by the Roadman’s Hill climb from Gauxholme to Sharneyford on 6th September.
Social rides for all continue on Thursday and Saturday, all are welcome.
Thanks
Derek
