Three intrepid members of Rossendale Road Club were up early on Sunday morning to travel to Barnoldswick where the Hope Pre-Peaks ride starts at the Hope factory. Graham Wright, Derek Schofield and Paul Warrener were accompanied by friend and NLRC rider Phill Warner. Hope Technology organise the ride and part of the proceeds go to the charity Bosom Friends who help to support Cancer sufferers. The ride sets off over Weets Hill and heads towards the Yorkshire Dales, the home of the 3 Peaks classic race. The Pre-Peaks covers a choice of distances of either 70 or 85 km and can be ridden on a mountain bike or a Cyclocross bike. There is a total of 1800 metres of climbing.
The ‘boys’ are pictured below at the second food stop where it was raining, the only other time it rained was at the first food stop – there must be a moral to this!
The ride was quite eventful with 1 puncture, 3 broken spokes, one bent rear mech and one snapped chain but there were, thankfully, no mishaps/injuries to report and they all finished together in a time of just over 8 hours.
