Last week saw the annual 2-leg inter-club challenge for the Malcolm Eccles time trial trophy. Unfortunately, due to road works on the Rossendale course, the event was held on a single night at Bashall Eaves. With additional interest from the Pendle Forest, Nelson Wheelers and Green Jersey clubs, a total of 40 riders made the start line. Rossendale suffered an early omission when Derek Schofield punctured on the start line, but the club fared well to finish in 3rd place overall with Paul Warrener leading the team. The hosting North Lancs RC took the trophy overall.
Tuesday this week was a return to the Hapton circuit and it was returning club member Mark Berry who took the overall win in a time of 25:22 for the 10 mile circuit against a strong head wing on the climbing section of the course. Berry was over a minute ahead of 2nd placed Tony Bowler, who finished just 2 seconds in front of Patrick Walkington. Regular riders Paul Warrener and Roy Flanagan were 4th and 5th respectively. The unfortunate 16 year old Maisy Vasic lost a minute when she misjudged the turn at her first race on the Hapton circuit and finished 8th overall, which must surely be improved on her next visit.
There are 2 remaining rounds of the Harry Law series at Hapton, with all welcome to set a time for 10 mile time trial. Sign on from 6:30 pm at the Hapton Inn.
